Tips and Tricks for Hong Kong (As of 2011)
Getting there – Take the 21 bus from the airport to Kowloon (Chung King Mansion) for $33 HKD, the ride goes quick since there is wifi on the bus!
Staying – Don’t always trust the reviews on the hostel websites, we booked Ashoka Guesthouse for one night before we got to HK and we were glad we didn’t pre-book our entire stay. We still can’t understand how they earned cleanest hostel…nasty! We ended up finding a cleaner, nicer room for $80 HKD less than Ashoka. If you’re brave enough to walk the lobby in Chung King Mansion, we recommend staying at New Grand Guesthouse in Block C, floor 13. Sketchy!
Eating – The night markets on Temple Street have great food and also Carnarvon Street…make sure to ask if you don’t see an English menu. We are SO glad we asked at the Dim Sum restaurant, our favorite meal during our time in Hong Kong.
Getting Around – The maps you get are not to scale, keep that in mind…walking everywhere is very easy. The ferries and buses are a no brainer and super cheap.
**There is a Hong Kong Tourism Board office in the airport and also at the ferry pier, super helpful for any questions you might have.
